Part VII: Log Stacking and Subfloor

Well... not too much progress happened since our last trip - mostly because of the weather (if you believe the builder). Nevertheless, the house "grew" by a few inches. One whole floor is done and subflooring has been put in. Our first floor now has a "roof". Here are the photos taken from the 9/23/06 visit:

One day there will be a deck for the first floor and hot tub for the basement...

Inside the first floor. Rather rustic looking, don't you think?

Part VI: Log Stacking

Part VI: Log Stacking

The logs that have been sitting out for 2 months are finally being used. This is the most exciting and "visually rewarding" part of construction. The log stacking started in late August of 2006 and by the time of our visit on labor day weekend, almost a full floor was done. Here is a photo taken on 09/02/06 :

Next: Our next visit is anticipated to occur before the end of September. We expect to have pictures of a slightly "taller" house, perhaps with some framing and "maybe" roofing. Check back soon!

Part V: Sub-floor & Basement

On our visit on 8/20/06, we discovered the house grown by a few inches. Take a look:

Mario (future master of the house) took a trip on July 19 to inspect positions of plumbing drains in advance of the pouring of the slab. Looks like a lot of progress has been made in the two weeks since our last visit:

By this stage, the lot has been cleared and most of debris taken away. The log kit has been delivered and dumped, well in advance of its use. Cinderblocks have been roughly arranged in anticipation of foundation. Note that this is more or less the footprint of the house. Photos below were taken on 7/3/06 during a mini-vacation with in-laws (over July 4th weekend):

Our next visit was in early June. By this time, we had closed on the construction loan (May 06) and have established a preliminary construction schedule with the builder. This was the progress as seen in these photos taken June 10, 2006. Our son Elliott enjoyed climbing and pretending to ride the bulldozer very much.

Part I: Lot

Welcome to our blog, describing the progress of construction of our future dream vacation home at beautiful Deep Creek Lake, Maryland!

Part I - Lot

The photo above is of our roughly 1 acre lot taken in April of 2006. The lot is located in Mountainside Development of Deep Creek Lake. Note the tree with the curved trunk. The driveway will soon magically appear to its left.
